Big Bend Stone Planters specializes in stone planters, garden accents, and water feature. Each piece is hand-shaped by artisans whose work supports local craftsman families across the region—the keepers of this technique.

We don’t rush things out here. Every piece we offer is pulled from the land, shaped by hand, and meant to last longer than a Texas drought.

Stone Planters… or Tinajas

Big or small, no two are the same.
Each Tinaja is carved by hand from “Tuff”—a volcanic ash stone pulled from outcroppings in northern Chihuahua. No molds, no machines, just skilled hands and quiet patience.

Pick the right size…

  • ½ Gallon (No Mark)

    Our smallest size—made for culinary herbs, wildflowers, or tiny native starts. Just enough space to grow something simple and good.

  • Size: 1 gallon (Black Dot)

    Shallow and sculptural. Built for succulents, low-water beauties, or those plants that like a little room to sprawl without getting lost.

  • Size: 2 gallon

    Compact but full of character. Great for small houseplants, starter arrangements, or lining a path with something green and low-maintenance.

  • Size: 3 gallon (Blue dot)

    A go-to size for flexibility. Works well indoors or out, solo or in a grouping. Great for flowering perennials or seasonal color.

  • Size: 4 gallon

    Shallow, wide, and made for visual impact. Great for spreading sedum, ornamental grasses, or stacking with other pieces in a water feature.

  • Size: 5 to 6 gallon

    Bold, grounded, and ready to be noticed. Great for larger plantings—citrus, agave, shrubs, or grouped statement pieces.

  • Size: 7 to 10 gallon

    A centerpiece in any space. Holds small trees, large shrubs, or mixed arrangements with structure and presence. Best for open landscapes or anchor spots.

  • Size: 200 to 900 pounds

    These planters start at 200 pounds and only get larger. Call for availability.

    These are true showstoppers. When a piece is too big for standard sizing, it gets priced by the pound.

    Perfect for architectural installs, custom fountains, or landscape designs that call for something no one else has.

Sizing Support

We size our Tinaja planters based on gallon capacity. Since each piece is hand-hewn and naturally irregular, dimensions can vary—even within the same category.

Think of it like cowboy hats: the outside may look different, but it’s the inside that tells you how much it holds. Gallon capacity gives the truest sense of planting space or water volume.

Sizes range from Herb to Extra Large. Anything bigger is sold by the pound—those are the showstoppers. These are true statement pieces, built for bold spaces.

No two tinajas are exactly alike—and that’s part of what makes them special.

Bird Bath Water Feature

Just add water and you’ve got a peaceful focal point and a favorite new hangout for feathered friends. Perfect for patios, gardens, and anywhere you’d welcome a bit more calm.

Sacred Springs (Small)

We handpick red sandstone rocks with natural time-carved basins and arrange them to feel organic and balanced. Our carver spent 40+ years as a trapper on the Navajo reservation.

Sacred Springs (Large)

This is the big version of our Sacred Spring—same weather-worn sandstone, same hand-carved petroglyphs, same quiet magic—just more of it. How much Zen is too much?

Old English Trough

  • No ma’am (or sir). We’re wholesale only. Our products are heavy, handcrafted, and meant for retailers, landscapers, and folks who can handle a forklift. But you’re welcome to browse and find a nearby retailer through our map.

  • Each piece is hand-carved from Tuff—a volcanic ash stone pulled from the earth in northern Chihuahua. It’s naturally porous, so most planters will drain over time. We drill holes in the bottom just to be safe, and some styles can be sealed for water features or aquatic plants.

  • We size our planters by gallon capacity, not by shape. Because they’re all handmade, no two are exactly alike. If you need something that feels like a set, we’ll do our best to pull pieces that go together—just know the variation is part of the charm.

  • We ship across the U.S. Freight in Texas starts at $375 per pallet. Out-of-state rates vary—just reach out for a quote. Minimums apply for pallet loads, but we’ve got starter kits to help folks get going.

  • We stand behind what we make. If after two full seasons your order hasn’t sold, we’ll buy it back. No fine print. No gimmicks. Just a good old-fashioned guarantee.
